After several years of working with the community members and residents of Central City South, we are preparing for our first wall-signing ceremony – the first of 30 new builds in this neighborhood!  After two years of helping residents with much needed repairs and revitalization efforts, we are grateful for this opportunity to help build new affordable homes in one of Phoenix’s oldest neighborhoods. We firmly believe that strong homes make for even stronger communities.

The future homeowners, Miguel and Karen Mosqueda, applied to build their home with Habitat to have their own space to spend much valued family time together. They also wanted to provide their daughter with her own room where she can focus on the learning and creativity that she enjoys so much.

This build is made possible by Habitat’s partnerships with the City of Phoenix and Jerry and Joan Colangelo. At this past year’s Blueprints and Blue Jeans Mr. Colangelo pledged $50,000 and encouraged the audience to match it, which they did in record time. This generosity from all at the event is what is funding this first build. The City of Phoenix awarded Habitat Central Arizona with the 30 vacant lots where we are building these new homes. The partnership has also allowed Habitat to complete 120 affordable repairs with 47 unique families who’ve contributed 980 sweat equity hours  – this worth $394,077 in estimated allocation of funds – since Spring of 2018.

We are looking forward to remarks from both Jerry and Joan Colangelo, as well as City of Phoenix Mayor, The Honorable Kate Gallego. All who attend will be invited to sign the frame of the home as part of this special ceremony.
