Celebrating Arizona Seniors During Healthy Aging Month
September is Healthy Aging Month and Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona’s Aging in Place program aims to help homeowners age safely in their homes by making safety improvements, mobility modifications and weatherization enhancements where needed.
Nearly 18% of Arizona’s population is over the age of 65 and around 118,000 of those individuals live below the poverty line. This means the cost of assisted living or making much-needed home improvements is out of reach. Habitat’s Aging in Place program can help with the cost and labor of improvements by installing grab bars, ramps, widening doorways, and roof repairs for aging Arizona homeowners. When these seniors can save money on home repairs, they do not have to choose between paying for health care, paying for food, and living in a safe place. Affordable home repairs can improve a homeowner’s health and quality of life.
At Habitat, we believe everyone needs a safe place to call home including the elderly. Living in a safe home allows Arizona seniors to maintain their health, dignity and hope.
