Aging in Place

What is aging in place?

Aging in Place is a partnership with people age 65 or older to help them age safely in their homes. The program focuses on making safety improvements, mobility modifications and weatherization enhancements.

Selection criteria

Need for housing

• Is your home in need of repair(s)?
• Are you age 65 or older?
• Do you live in your home full-time?

Ability to Pay

  • Does your income fall between the 30-80% area median income for Maricopa or Pinal County?
  • Do you have insurance on your home?

Willingness to Partner

  • Are you willing to be present when the work is completed?

Repair service options

Safety improvements:

• Easy-to-see contrast steps
• Grab bars
• Non-slip stair treads
• No-step door threshold
• Railings in halls and stairs
• Raised toilet seat
• Ramps
• Repair tripping hazards
• Secure door or window locks
• Minor lighting improvements:
• brighter bulbs, wireless controls, add lamps

Mobility modifications:

• Easy-to-use cabinet pulls
• Lever-style door handles/faucets
• Small bathroom modification
• Widen doorways

Weatherization enhancements:

• Replace caulking or sealing
• Weather strips to doors
• Window replacements,
• Roofing and Insulation

Additional exterior examples:

• Exterior painting or landscaping
