The leading cause of homelessness is lack of affordable housing

Habitat advocates for policies that support sustainable neighborhood revitalization, especially in under-resourced communities.

Informed and prioritized by local community members, these efforts aim to increase safety and security; expand resources for home repairs and improvements to preserve and create new affordable housing opportunities; and increase equitable access to jobs with a living wage, transportation, good schools, health and wellness care, and other essential services.

Some positive affects of affordable home ownership:

Your home shouldn’t cost you anywhere near half your paycheck.

Home shouldn’t cost you your health or your kids’ education. When the cost of home is your family’s future, the cost is too high. When the cost of home is any family’s future, that’s something none of us can afford.

Habitat for Humanity will mobilize through the Cost of Home advocacy campaign

Through the Cost of Home advocacy campaign, Habitat for Humanity will mobilize our local Habitat organizations, our partners, our volunteers and community members across the country to find the solutions and help create the policies that will allow 10 million individuals to have access to affordable housing.
